US: The 49 Fund announces first LGBT scholarship winners

The LGBT scholarship fund started in response to the Pulse nightclub shootings has awarded eight Central Florida residents with college scholarships of $4,900 each.

The 49 Fund, created by local attorney Barry L. Miller and the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, honors the 49 who lost their lives in the massacre.

Students chosen had to be openly gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender; attend an accredited two- or four-year college on a full-time basis; earn a 3.0 grade-point average and demonstrate a commitment to improving the Central Florida community. Read more via the Orlando Sentinel
