Monthly magazine Shincho 45 is to close following a public outcry over recent articles it published that were denounced as homophobic, its publisher announced Sept. 25.

Shinchosha Publishing Co. said that it will halt publication of the magazine whose troubles began when it published an article by Lower House member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party Mio Sugita on sexual minorities in July.

The backlash intensified in September when Shincho 45 included a follow-up special feature package under the banner “Is Sugita’s article that outrageous?” in its latest edition. Read more via Asahi
