The same-sex dating app Grindr says it will stop sharing its users' HIV status with other companies, after it was discovered the app was allowing third parties to access encrypted forms of the sensitive data.
A data analysis conducted by an outside research firm, and independently verified by BuzzFeed News, shows that a popular gay dating app is sharing its users’ HIV status with two other companies. (Update: Late on Monday Grindr said it would stop sharing this information.)
The rule would function not only as a shield for people asserting objections on religious or moral grounds but also as a sword that permits them to withhold care from women; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people; and others.
